Meet Clay & Jodi

We're not just sailors—we're educators, adventurers, racers, and believers in the transformative power of time spent on the water. BlueJ Charters was born from a simple realization: Lake Minnetonka is one of the most stunning sailing destinations in the Midwest, yet there's no way for people to experience it with expert crew unless they own their own boat.

We wanted to change that.

After decades of sailing together all over the world, earning serious credentials, racing competitively, and countless hours exploring every corner of Lake Minnetonka, we decided it was time to share what we love most with others. Not as a business venture first, but as a way to spread the joy of sailing to people who might never otherwise experience it.

Our Philosophy

Every charter is different because every person is different. Some guests want to learn—how to trim a sail, read the wind, take the helm. Others just want to relax with friends and cold drinks while we handle everything. Both are absolutely perfect.

We believe in meeting people where they are. First-timers get patient instruction and encouragement. Experienced sailors get stimulating conversation and maybe some racing tips. Families get safety and fun. Friend groups get adventure and laughs. You tell us what sounds good, and we make it happen.

Why BlueJ?

Our boat isn't just transportation—she's part of the family. BlueJ is a Beneteau First 260 Spirit, a French racing design known for being fast, stable, and an absolute blast to sail. We chose her specifically because she's the perfect size: big enough to be comfortable and safe, small enough to be nimble and exciting.

That distinctive electric blue hull? Impossible to miss. You'll spot BlueJ from across the lake, and once you're aboard, you'll understand why we fell in love with her.

We've outfitted her with everything needed for both performance sailing and comfortable cruising. The cabin is cozy and nautical—perfect for storing your belongings or escaping the sun. And when the wind is right and the sails are trimmed perfectly, there's no better feeling than flying across the water.

Jodi's Role

Jodi has been sailing actively for over a decade and knows BlueJ inside and out. She's Clay's trusted crew, co-host, and the person who makes sure everyone feels welcome and comfortable from the moment they step aboard.

While Clay handles the technical aspects of sailing, Jodi focuses on the experience—making sure drinks are cold, questions are answered, and everyone's having a great time. She's patient with beginners, fun to talk to, and has a knack for making people feel like they're sailing with old friends.

Together, Clay and Jodi create an environment where sailing feels natural, exciting, and accessible to everyone.
