I'm the president of a cyber-security company, and Jodi's a retired middle school teacher. So how did we get here, chartering our sailboat on Lake Minnetonka? The answer is pretty simple; we love to share our sailing experiences.
Sailing serendipity
Ask anyone that knows us, we'll go sailing at the drop of a hat. Racing, cruising, overnighting, anchoring - whatever. We're up for it. And while we love sailing just the two of us, we absolutely love having people with us, old friends or new friends... and that's really how this got started.
A chance opportunity
We've always thought of BlueJ as the queen of Lake Minnetonka, and it seems that other people share our opinion. She's always been very popular at the Wayzata yacht club docks for young people having their senior pictures or prom pictures taken, and we once took out a good friend's daughter for pictures while on the water. That was an amazing time, and that started the thought process.
What really pushed us into action was when a couple asked our marina manager if there were any sailboats you could charter on Lake Minnetonka. There actually were none at the time, but she suggested talking to us. We got in contact, created a proposition which they loved, and we went out.
We all had a magical time; I think Jodi and I enjoyed it as much as they did. And they were over the moon with the opportunity. So it got us thinking - what if we formalized this? The boat is perfect, and I actually have all the qualifications necessary to take people out legally, and have fun as well. And Jodi loves entertaining and making people feel comfortable.
Down to business!
So we're off and running! A flurry of paperwork and computer time to get going! But we've already got our first customers for 2025 lined up, we're adding more details to the website, and more social media properties pretty much on a weekly basis.
